PWCL delivered project management and advisory services for a £4 million private wire and EV charging installation within a waste-to-energy site, integrating energy generation with multi-site charging infrastructure.
Project Background
Thalia Waste Management is establishing a pioneering EV charging hub within the Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park, repurposing a portion of energy generated on-site to power electric vehicles.
The multi-million-pound initiative includes dedicated refuse vehicle charging points at the adjacent recycling facility and delivering power to the local bus depot via a dedicated private wire, creating a closed-loop, sustainable energy use model.
What we did
PWCL was appointed to oversee the entire delivery: from the technical design stage through to commissioning.
Our engagement included managing the design and installation of private electrical infrastructure, while also providing commercial oversight, quantity surveying services, and leading Health & Safety efforts.
As Principal Designer, we ensured regulatory standards were embedded in the process, while acting as Employer’s Agent to maintain a clear line of accountability and stakeholder coordination.
This project stands out for its integration of energy infrastructure within a built environment, power isn’t just delivered; it's optimally generated, distributed, and utilised across multiple adjacent sites.
PWCL ensured the electrical infrastructure aligned seamlessly with site operations, balancing technical performance, safety, and long-term asset integrity.
